Autere Surf Tower
The Māori name of this holiday home is Te Pouwhare o Rehua - The Tower of Antares. The star Antares can be seen from the deck and is associated with summer, enjoyment and entertainment.
A dual use holiday-accommodation, personal use and to rent out, this home had to suit the historic location and sit well in the lush, treelined coastal location. The design needed to be compact to ensure affordability and it needed to meet higher than code eco and energy efficiency goals.
A key feature of the home is the "niho taniwha" balustrade panel made from made out of red beech - (tawhairaunui) with a maire inlay on the stair side. Another hard tomiss feature is the roof top deck, perched amongst the pohutukawa canopy. The perfect spot to escape the world and soak in the sun and views with a G & T in hand.
